where did the homebrew channel for the wii even come from?

sorry if you find this question dumb. i just don’t get how someone just happened to find this hack and out of a series of codes on the twilight princess game and boom there is the wii homebrew channel. (i know there are more steps to getting the channel, but seriously how was it made) thank you to all that answered

hackers have been making homemade software for a long time. wii’s homebrew was started with gamecube. like most discoveries it was probably accidental.
Hacking video games is nothing new. In fact, at Border’s I started reading a book on how to hack the NES and such.
The GameCube was eventually hacked and obviously the Wii had to get hacked too.
Hacking is pretty time-consuming if you’re doing something that no one has done before, so they put a good deal of time on it.
