I was just wondering, how do the friend codes on the wii work? Is it like on the ds, where you have to look for people in real life or can you do it all from your wii?

It’s hard to say exactly how the Wii codes will work, being that there aren’t yet any games out yet that are "online." However, unlike the DS, the Wii only has one code. On the DS each wi-fi game had a different friend code, but that’s not the case for the Wii. I know that for features like the "Mii Parade" you do need another person’s Wii code.
It is possible that there may be online multiplayer games in which you will not need someone’s Wii code. There are already games like that for the DS — MarioKart, Tetris, and Clubhouse Games are games that automatically come to mind. Once you connect to the wifi system with those games, you are automatically and randomly connected with other gamers online. It’s possible that there will be Wii games that do the same thing. It depends on the games that come out.
The first Wii game that will make use of it’s online feature is the game Elebits, which comes out December 12th. In that game, you will supposedly be able to trade items, screenshots, and custom-made levels, with friends that own the game, and I’m pretty sure you will need a friend’s Wii code for that.
I’m sure everyone will know a lot more in the first quarter of 2007 when more online games for the Wii come out.
